Once derided, ways of adapting to climate change are gaining steam

This National Geographic article captures current perceptions and preparations around the country and the globe, to the far-ranging impacts of climate change from wildlife to torrential rain. The increasing need to respond proactively is being met with more seriousness in a time when adaptation is seen as necessary, rather than a defeatist take on climate change. Rather than exclusively focusing on greenhouse gas reduction methods, homeowners are taking steps to build homes that can withstand flooding, and in California, jurisdictions are working to reduce fire risk with long-term development strategies following the recent devastation. The newly minted Global Center on Adaptation is partnering with the World Resource Institute to help fuel the critical science and innovation needed to support this global need for accelerating and expanding vulnerability reduction to counter our increasing risk to climate change.
